KULeuven is searching for an enthusiastic PhD student or postdoctoral researcher to apply land surface data assimilation for regional cropping systems. The research is part of a European H2020 project focussing on soil hydrology, vegetation, water scarcity and management of cropping systems. The research will be supervised by prof. Gabrielle De Lannoy, prof. Gerard Govers, and colleagues involved in the H2020 project. The research aims at using relatively fine-scale satellite information to improve estimates of water budget and vegetation components in various agricultural regions. The modeling system will involve the FAO Aquacrop crop growth model; the assimilation system will be ensemble- or particle-based; the satellite data will include optical, and microwave measurements.
